Comedian Talk Show Appearances: Week of July 5

A lot of reruns, a lot of junkets. But may I draw your attention to Wednesday’s Colbert Report? Yes, that’s Steve Carell, Colbert’s former colleague at the Daily Show (and the Dana Carvey Show, and Second City), in his first appearance on the Report.

Among the rare references to Carell on the Report is Stephen saying that Steve used to be a great newsman. Will that narrative of Steve being a sellout and a journalistic traitor continue? Will they meet the high hopes of fans and do a full-on Even Stevphen?

I think no matter what they do, viewers will love seeing them on screen together again. But let’s just hope that the overplayed Daily Show method of the host pretending to forget who Carell is (three times and counting, Jon?) will not creep into it.
