Film Vault Fridays: John Mayer standup clip

C’mon, did you really think I was going to post that big long essay without providing you with some of John Mayer’s actual standup? This is one of my favourite, albeit dirtier, chunks available online.

Some background is necessary: Twice now, Mayer has hosted fans on a full-size cruise ship called the Mayercraft Carrier. If you’ve ever seen photos of him in the lime green Borat swimsuit, or the ultra-tight captain’s uniform, those are both him being silly on the boat. This clip is of a surprise standup set at one of the boat’s clubs, so yes you ARE hearing the cheers and laughs of his biggest fans. Ignore that. As an introduction, he’s talking about his inability/unwillingness to get laid on the boat.

Again, this is some of his dirtier stuff, so consider it NSFW:

Is it genius level? Of course not, but I think it’s pretty solid considering it’s not his career. And how many people in the world are doing standup about being a rock star?
